Excellent tool.
I purchased this item for our kitchen, as we use a lot of garlic in our cooking. At first, my wife did not like how it worked and thought it was a bad purchase. Then she figured out she was pressing it the reverse way. Once we figured that out, the tool works just as promised. It's very heavy and we think it will last a long time.

It was fine while it lasted but it didn't last long
I bought this garlic press based on the Cook's Illustrated recommendation. Sure enough, it worked beautifully for a couple of months. Then the pin holding the two pieces together started coming out. That was doable, I was always able to put it back together. Until the thing simply broke - I mean that a piece of metal broke in two. I don't expect heirloom quality for $11.99 but I do expect a product to last longer than seven months of moderate use.

great product, easy to use, cleans up quickly, and didn't cost much. also works well on ginger. I love it.

A Very Good Garlic Press for the Price
I purchased this product because it was recommended by Cook's Illustrated as a best buy. It has worked very well. My fiance and I cook a lot and our old garlic press was hard to press more than one clove at a time and very hard to clean. With this press, you can fill the hopper full of cloves and it takes very little effort to press the garlic; all of the clove is pressed out and only the paper remains. The press is also very easy to clean with the silicone cleaners that are located on the opposite side of the plunger, the garlic in the hopper is removed and it only needs to be rinsed out with water to remove all the remaining garlic. We are very happy with our purchase.

Great press!
This is my first garlic press so I don't have much to compare it to..but I love it. I actually find myself looking forward to using it! It has substantial weight to it and consistently does a thorough job of crushing up to 2 or 3 cloves at a time. And it's very easy to clean too!
